Usagi Yojimbo Book 14: Demon Mask, Stan Sakai

From Milwaukie, Oregon-based Dark Horse Comics comes this creative series about a wandering samurai in a feudal Japan where all the inhabitants are various animals. The main character is a rabbit whose adventures are chronicled over the course of the many short stories included in this volume. The black-and-white art lends tremendous personality to the characters, though it is the actions they take that really cement who they are and what they represent–especially the strict warrior code by which Usagi lives his life. This series is also a fun way to learn a bit about ancient Japanese culture, and you can even pick up a few Japanese words (they are translated in the text)! Usagi Yojimbo is recommended for Youth readers, ages 10 and up.
